Tax Taskforce Net Widened by HMRC
The remit of the new taskforces will include:
- Restaurants in the Midlands
- Taxi Firms in Yorkshire ,Nottingham, Derbyshire and Leicestershire
- London market traders
- Property rentals in London, Leeds, East Anglia, York, Leicester, Durham and Sunderland
The restaurant taskforce is an extension of an existing campaign that has already targeted dining venues in London, the North West of England and Scotland. Around 30 restaurant businesses have been prosecuted already under the initial project, with HMRC predicting a tax yield of over £13 million. The tax office hopes the inclusion of the Midlands will add a further £2.5 million to that total.
There have been around 25 targeted HMRC campaigns since the beginning of 2011.
